Web14 Jun 2024 · The thing is, nobody actually makes a bushing for a T56 for whatever reason. There's one exception, but it's like $30 and in my opinion not even worth it because there's a chance it will end up jacked up on install, or slip, etc., and you're out $30. Don't worry about the getting it out part, the getting one in part is the issue. Web5 Jan 2004 · Some clearance between the tailshaft bushing and the yoke is normal. If it is very slight, you are okay. If the noise is a "clunk"... there are many causes. Check the motor mounts and the tranny mount first. Other decel clunk causes: Excessive pinion/ring gear clearance. Worn axle shaft splines and/or diff splines. Worn internl tranny parts.

Web1 Apr 2024 · It is poss to remove tailshaft housing in the car and replace bushing, I did it as a challenge, I woulda been faster yanking and dismantling the trans on the bench. Web9 Jul 2024 · I'm looking for the brass (or ? material) sleeve bushing located inside the rear portion of the tailshaft housing extension. It should have rifling groves and be about 2" long and what the slip yoke rides on. I've seen diagrams which identify it for the 231 but strangely there's no recognized part on a diagram for the 241.
Web30 Mar 2010 · With the drive shaft out the output shaft will wobble a bit. The bushing supports the shaft only when the driveline yoke is in place. If the seal wasn't leaking, the bushing is probably fine. They rarely go bad and when they do you find out because the rear seal leaks. My advice is to run it unless it is leaking.

I would try pulling the driveshaft and seal. Then see if you can remove and install a new bushing. It is quit a bit of work to reinstall the overdrive unit.
