Further, CPAP can contribute to aerophagia or swallowing of air. Air is pushed down the esophagus into the stomach, resulting bloating, burping etc. Further that trapped air can come back up contributing top GERD. SpletCurrently, no data exist on how to best manage CPAP-induced aerophagia. Does lowering CPAP pressure, adding expiratory pressure release, or using auto-adjusting CPAP or bilevel PAP decrease aerophagia? Data need to be collected on how best to manage these patients. Oh. That's great. So it's all guesswork and experience at this point.
