Webb30 nov. 2016 · The only thing that provides power to the starter is the starter relay mounted inside the fender behind the battery. So, power must be getting through the relay somehow. Three possibilities: 1. Either the internals of the relay are damaged resulting in a short between the battery cable and the starter cable. 2. The relay is wired improperly. 3. Webb4 nov. 2013 · When I bump the starter the gear stays engaged. I tried no shims to 1/8" of shims and still gets stuck. Any thicker shims and I will need longer bolts. I want to fire the engine but working by myself I don't want the engine to start and have the drive gear stuck. Although it may disengage when the engine starts, but I hate to chance it.

Webb26 apr. 2015 · This causes the bendix to stick/hang up on the shaft in the disengage position, the fix is remove the starter then the bendix from the starter shaft. Set the bottom of the bendix on a sheet of sand paper on a flat surface, sand the bottom until it's flat again then re-assemble. Webb26 sep. 2012 · Your starter will not stay engaged. 1.) The starter drive is not getting enough voltage to fully engage the flywheel and stay there until you let the ignitioin go back to the ON position. Webb12 sep. 2008 · Okay, I tried putting some thick washers in as spacers, to try shimming it. Although the starter still cranked the engine fine, it also still got stuck to it. Battery has 12.7 volts on it. I went ahead and pulled the starter out. No evidence of damage on the flywheel or starter gear. I cleaned out the solenoid plunger, tried it again, still ... I'm not sure if the ignition switch connector is wired correctly or not? I tested the starter by jumping two terminals and it turns without engaging the flywheel and when I jump the other combo of terminal it turns the motor. Any Ideas?
