WebDec 4, 2024 · As another poster replied, perhaps the slinger's purpose is to keep the fuel pump arm lubricated, and is not necessary for FI 5.0s/351Ws with electric pumps. I don't think it was there to avoid oil leakage around the front seal. Ford would have just made a better seal instead of spending money on metal slingers for millions of engines. WebJul 7, 2024 · However, if you want to know exact timing, your best bet is an adjustable pointer, a timing tape, and finding true TDC on #1. Once you find true TDC, adjust the pointer to the zero mark on your damper, and if it doesn't line up properly then install a timing tape around your damper. HTH... Mark FFR5310RD
